Directed by Dick Richards, ex-con Moose (Jack O’Halloran) hires private eye Philip Marlowe (Robert Mitchum) to find his long-lost girlfriend, Velma, a lounge singer. The lounge owner’s wife says she’s dead, but Marlowe remains skeptical.
Meanwhile, Marlowe also goes on a routine ransom exchange for a necklace and gets knocked out and framed for murder. He eventually finds the necklace’s owner, blonde bombshell Helen Grayle (Charlotte Rampling), but, more importantly, evidence that the two cases are connected. Philip Marlowe is a fictional character created by Raymond Chandler.
Marlowe first appeared under that name in The Big Sleep, published in 1939. Chandler’s early short stories, published in pulp magazines like Black Mask and Dime Detective, featured similar characters with names like “Carmady” and “John Dalmas”.
Film Noir Festival films will be shown from May 10–13 at the Camelot Theatres, 2300 E. Baristo Road, Palm Springs.

When it comes to topflight entertainment, all of the local casinos do it up right. But in May, the Fantasy Springs Resort in Indio has stepped up its game with an exceptional lineup of top talent that spans generations of musicians and music genres that never go out of style.
From Classic Rock and Roll to Rhythm and Blues, Soul and Funk, Latin Alternative Rock and Latin Hip Hop, to Pop, R&B, Show Tunes, and Gospel—May entertainment at the Fantasy Springs Resort promises to have locals and tourists from near and far bringing down the house all month long.
All are amazing, but two of the best-known acts are Tom Jones and Earth, Wind & Fire. Throughout history, few musicians rise to the level of musical genius. These two have for decades entertained audiences and fans with songs and rhythms that transcend generations. Their music today is as alive and fresh as it was when first introduced.
So, go get your groove on! Check out the Fantasy Springs Entertainment site for tickets to these hot May shows!
