Idyllwild, Pioneertown, Cool Breezes, Jazz and Craft Brews

Idyllwild Is the Perfect Place to Escape the Extreme Desert Heat and Enjoy the Great Outdoors

High up in the San Jacinto mountains, the sweet smell of pines, sleepy trails and laid-back western town is like being swaddled in a comfy blanket.

The small town is imbued with mountain charm and offers all the comforts of a timberland retreat. Friendly owners and inviting local taverns serve up craft brews while restaurants dish-up hearty American-style meals and desserts to warm your heart.

When done imbibing cruise the town and do some window-shopping. Idyllwild’s stores are filled with interesting handmade and touristy crafts, bookstores, and fine art. Wind chimes, cowboy hats, children’s toys, leather goods, delicious confections, and even Sasquatch are among the fun and interesting treasures waiting to be found.

Inspired by the majestic 8,846-foot-tall Tahquitz Peak and towering pines, your inner pioneer spirit just might compel you to explore one of the many forested park trails. Ferns, flower blossoms and wildlife lace the winding trails that ultimately guide you to cool creeks and picturesque picnic sites.

Idyllwild Arts Presents the 25th Annual Jazz in the Pines, August 10-12

The Jazz festival is a favorite local event. This year, over two dozen bands are performing jazz, blues, and R&B to fans from all over the region. The festival is set among a breathtaking mountain campus, and with 27 artists, 4 stages, 3 days, and 50 vendors this is one of the hottest tickets in Southern California.

All proceeds from the festival benefit Idyllwild Arts. Our mission is changing lives through the transformative power of art. We are a 501(c)(3) non-profit.

Located at Idyllwild Arts, 52500 Temecula Rd., Idyllwild, CA 92549.

Live Musical Performance at Jazz in the Pines

Pappy & Harriet's Pioneertown Palace

Old West, Rock Music and Mesquite Barbecue — The legendary Pappy and Harriet’s Pioneertown Palace is an eclectic mix of old and new Hollywood and Indie music legends set in an old west frontier setting, and it is amazingly cool. With Mesquite barbeque, live music, dancing and friendly service the legendary bar is an indie rock favorite with musicians from Robert Plant to Vampire Weekend to Leon Russell and Sean Lennon having graced the P&H stage.

A Long and Historic Story

According to the website, “Pioneertown was founded in 1946 by a group of Hollywood investors with dreams of creating a 1870’s frontier town with facades for filming and interiors open to the public. On the outside were stables, saloons, and jails, and on the inside, were ice cream parlors, bowling alleys, and motels. Roy Rogers, Gene Autry, Russell Hayden, and the Sons of the Pioneers (for whom the town was named) were some of the original investors and personalities who helped build and invent Pioneertown. More than 50 films and several television shows were filmed in Pioneertown throughout the 1940’s and 1950’s.” Pappy and Harriet's Pioneertown Palace, 53688 Pioneertown Road, Pioneertown, CA 92268.
